Here is a history which I heard from my father yesterday evening. One of his friends had recently 71 to the Himalayas, the famous mountain range (山脉) in the world. Which he was 72 along the mountain paths, he met a few other 73 . Among them there was an old lady and her grandson. The small child admired the beautiful mountains. He said to his grandmother, " 74 nice these mountains are! Can we take them home, Grandma?" The old woman smiled and said, "Dear, if some child like you had 75 them away yesterday, would you have a chance to see them? Now if we take these mountains away today, then tomorrow, another child will not have the chance to see these beautiful things. Don't you think they are so nice 76 everyone should see and enjoy them?"
What a noble(高尚的) 77 ! Our lives become meaningful only when we learn the value of everything for 78 . Just as the saying goes, "The rich man is not the one who has the most, but one who needs the 79 ."
Thanks for your last letter. Yes, I'm enjoying myself on my exchange program in France. It's even better than I thought it would be. I was a bit nervous before I arrived here, but there was no reason to be. My host family is really nice. They go out of their way to make me feel at home. And you wouldn't believe how quickly my French has improved! I'm very comfortable speaking French now. Although I still make lots of mistakes, it doesn't bother me like it used to. My biggest challenge is learning how to behave at the dinner table. As you can imagine, things are really difficult from the way they are at home. For example, you're not supposed to put your bread on your plate. You're supposed to put it on the table！I thought that was pretty strange at first, but now I'm used to it. You're not supposed to eat anything with your hands except bread, not even fruit! (You have to cut it up and eat it with a fork.) Another thing is that it is very rude to say you're full. If you don't want any more food, you should just say, "It was delicious." Also, it's rude to put your hands in your lap. You should always keep your hands, but not your elbows, on the table. I have to say, I find it difficult to remember everything, but I'm gradually getting used to things and don't find them so strange any more. I'll write soon and tell you more about life in France. Hope you're having a good school year.

It seems that no one really knows why we sleep. There are two theories, but a theory (理论) is only an idea or a guess. Even scientists don't know if these theories are correct or not.
One theory of sleep is called the "Repair Theory". This theory says that during the day we use many important chemicals in our bodies and brains (脑). So we need sleep to make new chemicals which we use the following day.
Another theory is called the "Adaptive Theory". This theory says that sleep developed gradually and naturally because on the one hand it stopped early humans and animals from wasting energy, on the other hand it kept themselves out of danger from the other animals that killed and ate them. In other words, sleep kept them safe and out of trouble. It was necessary for their survival(生存).
Whatever the reason for sleep, everyone sleeps and everyone dreams every night. Many times we don't remember our dreams, but we still dream. Like sleep, no one knows exactly why we dream or what dreams mean. There have been many theories about dreams. Many cultures believe that dreams can foretell the future that they can tell us what will happen to us. Some psychologists and psychiatrists (精神病学家) believe that dreams tell us about our feelings and desires.
However some scientists now believe that dreams mean nothing at all --- dreams are caused by the electrical activity in our brains while we sleep and our brains try to make a story out of these meaningless patterns (图案). In fact, the dreams seem crazy and without meaning sometimes because they are crazy and without any meaning at all.
Three different opinions about dreams
b. Dreams tell us about our feelings and desires.
